Alexander the Great coin in 2,800 year old farmhouse in Israel

The 2, 300-year-old farmhouse that outlived empires is well-preserved and shows the passage of Alexander the Great through the region

The building was used during the Persian period, known as the time of Return to Zion, in the 6th century and in the Hellenistic period that began with the arrival of Alexander the Great. Evidence of a Greek presence in the region was uncovered when a rare silver coin bearing the warrior kings name was found on one of the floors. One side of the coin shows the god Zeus and the head of Heracles is on the other side.

COINS

"With Alexander's victory over the Persian army in 333 B.C., he embarked upon numerous successful military campains,"says the sites excavation director Amit Shadman. "His campaign in Israel did not encounter any special difficulties and the country opened its gates to the great warrior."

Regarding the farmhouse, Mr. Ashdown said that these type of buildings were small settlements. Numerous winepresses were discovered in the area showing that the wine industry was the most important branch of agriculture in the region.

Amphipolis: The Tomb belongs to the Great Alexander or Roxane;

Editing article: Nephele Skarlidoy

Which of the two personalities of antiquity is the funerary monument of Amphipolis; With an extensive article, Professor James Romm, presents everything revealed so far on the Hill Kasta, while wondering if the magnificent Tomb belongs to Mega Alexander or his wife Roxane.

"The excavation of the tomb of the 4th century BC, near Amphipolis so far gives "shoddy" evidence that the tomb of Alexander the great. Maybe, though, ultimately be and of his wife ". The belief that the funerary monument of Amphipolis given so far… evidence that belongs to the Macedonian Commander, is College Professor James Romm at Bard The Daily Beast, Stressing that nothing yet has not cleared up the identity of the dead, while making and terms that you might eventually have female burial.
In the article Professor writes:
«About 100 km east of Thessaloniki, near the ruins of ancient Amphipolis, the hill called Kasta employs here and months Philhellenes from all over the world. In this vast circular structure, called by the locals "the tomb of Queen», three vaulted chambers have come in «light». The first and the second Chamber are hosting dazzling their entrances statues, While in the second track and an amazing mosaic, depicting the abduction of Persephone by Hades, on the floor of the Chamber. After almost two months, the Greek press is spreading the news: an excavation found underneath the soils in the third Chamber, hosting a tomb and remains of a skeleton.

The Hill Kasta "showed" the dead of… but without giving answers around riddles of the Tomb.
One of the main riddles funerary monument remains the fact how such an impressive and grandiose monument built in the 4th century BC., There is no historical record of the ancient world. Such important buildings – such as the Hill Kasta with funerary enclosure about 500 measures of marble – attracted historians such as Pausanias and Strabo. However, No historian of that era did not mentions mausoleum outside of Amphipolis, but neither for Leo who dominated at the top of the. Any written text has not survived that refers to the huge edifice, and all that is there is the rumor that maintained for centuries that the Hill belongs to a "Queen".
One of the many mysteries of the Tomb, at least, solved at the press conference given at the Greek Ministry of culture at 29 November 2014. The lion of Amphipolis and hundreds of marbles, found kilometers away from the Hill, moved by British soldiers during the first world war, who tried to get from Greece, in the words of the architect who worked on excavations, Michael Lefantzi. However, This project is not crowned with success as, the day would become the transportation, attacked the British army Bulgarian and Austrian forces.
Unsolved Riddle remains the identity of deceased, While not expected to be soon reply. The basin of the dead found dissolved and experts have not yet managed to discover if it belongs to a male or female. The funeral gifts traditionally leave at burials the ancient Greeks have probably removed by body-snatchers, who left behind only bones and some glass objects. While it's worth noting that nothing has been found that to deny dating the head of excavation, k. Κατερίνας Περιστέρη, which places the grave in the last quarter of the 4th century BC, the period that Alexander the great died.
The mere reference to the name of the Macedonian Commander increases the pulse of Greeks. From the beginning of the excavation on the Hill Kasta, many are hoping that the Tomb belongs to the Great Alexander, Although there is no historical evidence that proves the fact. The body of the Commander, After his death, fylachthike and edited very carefully and had just arrived in Egypt – where the stole Ptolemy- all Greeks were updated for event. The successors of Ptolemy, Indeed, made sure the mummy of Alexander for centuries, While there are writings that mention that Julius Caesar visited the Mummy and even broke her nose. Ms. Peristeri, though, has not denied the rumor that the body of Alexander may eventually be buried in Greek territory, saying yes to Greek journalists that "nothing can be ruled out at this stage».
Yet though, and if the Conqueror is entafiasmenos in other place, the skeleton of Amphipolis may belong to his wife. Roxane, whom he married Alexander the great in today's Uzbekistan, Amphipolis was murdered in the 307 e.g., together with their son and heir of Alexander. An ancient source mentions that her body was buried at Aigai Roxanne, (in modern Vergina), However so far no one has found the tomb of. So, Roxane may be the "Queen" in which the locals of Amphipolis.
The lion but, He once stood on top of the Tomb, as often the k. Peristeri, indicates male Warrior burial. If, well, the dating of the tomb is proper then candidates generals and later successors of Alexander, is enough. The speculation focused on Nearchos, the Greek captain who led the army of Alexander on the Euphrates the 325 e.g.. No evidence exists for burial of Nearchos, However his family connected with Amphipolis and for’ this reason is one of the main tenants of the Tomb.
The bones found in the tomb is currently studied in detail by anthropologists, without however, be certain to draw important conclusions from the studies. For a possible DNA analysis will be studied genetic material from relatives of the dead, for example if the skeleton belongs to Roxane should take sample from the skeleton found at Aigai and conjectured that belongs to her son ".
